SpaLab promises us a place to retreat, be creative, indulge, test new skincare products, and make new friends. What makes them different?

They create their own skincare products right on premises in full view of the customer. Yes, they are a Lab! They use hemp seed oil, wild mallow, birch and lemongrass to make Facial Wash. Blending water based fragrance, Vitamin A, D & E, and Shea Butter they make body lotion. They also invite guests to challenge them to create obscure skincare lines.

“If you use any skincare products, choose the simplest, with the least amount of ingredients”.

We think that if you examine our ingredient list, you will find that ours are simple - Just enough to make a huge difference in your skin.

"Massage therapist Larry Costa, who has owned a handful of Manhattan spas, including Miracle Spa, The Parlor, and Life Is Beautiful, creates all the products sold and used at his latest venture, SpaLab, which he opened in the summer of 2010. Here in this bright, white-walled space that is sparsely decorated save for some black-and-white-photographs from photographer Jade Oliver, you’ll find everything from shampoo, to body scrubs and oils, to skincare for the face. Scents range from the subtle, like their signature Summer Ice, to the sultry – one of which is titled “Oh No, You Didn’t” - and customers have the option to create their own blend with essential oils."

"I received the Snake Venom eye treatment. I laid on a comfortable table in a darkened room listening to the soothing sounds of the ocean while Costa administered the procedure. First, a hemp cleanser was used to wash away my eye makeup and then a gentle exfoliant was applied to prep my skin for the venomous solution. The 35% Snake Venom solution was applied to my skin, and then the best part: A cool cucumber mask and 10-15 minute nap to let it all soak in. Heavenly. When Costa returned I felt refreshed and relaxed, and my eyes? Bright and smooth! I don't have a lot of deep set wrinkles yet, but my finer lines seemed smoother. My skin also felt more taut and my eyelids less crepey. Even when I woke up the next morning my eyes still looked great. No puffiness!"

NY Mags, Alex Williams says,

"As my body sinks deep into a cushy six-inch-thick foam mat, I munch on chocolates. Soon, I smell citrus, with hints of butter. The aroma is actually melon (which Costa purchases by the armload in Chinatown), and by the time it penetrates my nasal passages, it's mixed with something else ("natural oils," I'm informed later) and puréed into a sort of fruit frosting, which is kneaded deep into my muscles. Theoretically, this will wash away four very stressful months from the pages of my body's history. Melon or no melon, the treatment is a gentle, enveloping massage with cranio-sacral (that means "head and neck") touches."
